How does it work?

The mechanical Q-Switched effect works by vibrating and breaking down the ink particles in the tattoo. As the area heals, the body’s immune system flushes away the shattered ink particles, causing the tattoo to fade with minimal risk of scarring or hypopigmentation.

What is involved?

During a laser tattoo removal procedure, the practitioner guides a laser over the area of the tattoo. Unlike a laser pointer that produces a continuous beam of light, tattoo removal lasers produce pulses of light energy.
Each pulse of energy penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the tattoo ink. As the tattoo ink particles absorb the energy, they heat up and then shatter into tiny fragments.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required depends on the size of the tattoo, the ink used, skin type, the quality of tattoo and the age of the tattoo.

Are there any risks & complications?

After treatment, there will be heat in the area and may be some swelling, redness, pin-point bleeding and white frosting. In some cases, edema and blistering can occur. This is a normal side effect of treatment and will settle within days.

What is the basic aftercare advice?

Our laser specialist will go through this in detail and give you an information sheet to take home. Here are just some of the aftercare advice; Keep the treated area clean and dry Make sure clothes are not rubbing the treated area Do not expose the treated area to heat such as hot baths etc for 24-48 hours Swimming should be avoided until the area is fully healed Do not scratch the skin treated if scabs form these must not be picked, or secondary infection is possible Do not expose the treated area to the sun or sun beds

Why do I need to have a patch test prior to treatment?

All patients are required to have a 24hr patch test prior to any of our laser treatments. This is so we can quickly identify if you have sensitive skin towards laser and to avoid any adverse reactions.

Will it treat all colour tattoos?

The Harmony XL Pro laser machine is a successful multi-colour tattoo removal device. However, there is no guarantee or assurance as to the final result that may be obtained. Some colours like yellow and white may just fade, and the blue part of green may disappear leaving yellow. Our laser specialist will advise you in the consultation what to expect based on your tattoo.
